Species We Raise LargeAfrican Greys Congo $1,150 / African Greys Timneh - $950![]() African Gray Are considered by many to be the "King of Parrots". This position of honor is probably afforded them, in large part, because to the incredible intellect this species possesses. Although all parrots are extremely intelligent animals, the mental acumen of the African Grey places it in the upper echelons of avian intelligence. Recent research places their mental capacity on an equal level with that of a three to five year old child! General Information
PERSONALITY: This is a highly intelligent, affectionate bird that will bond very strongly to their favored" person. They are also very sensitive and in tune to the moods of their favored person. They can also sometimes be shy and somewhat flighty. (Timneh's reportedly less so than Congo's). Early socialization and exposure to many things is very important. If not handled and socialized regularly by the entire family or numerous people, they can and do become 1 person birds. Generally Grey's are only really affectionate with their favorite person. However, they can have more than one favorite person! Grey's like most parrots are manipulative and you have to be very careful not to reinforce negative behavior. A well socialized Grey will tolerate strangers, however, if you are looking for a bird that will run with eagerness to your friends and show off his astounding vocabulary for all that enter your home. A Grey is not the bird for you. Grey's generally prefer to retreat and clam up in the presence of strangers. There are of course exceptions, and much of this has to do with early socialization. Grey's of both sexes can be moody and even nippy during breeding season and/or when moulting.
Blue & Golds - $1250
![]() Blue & Gold Macaws This is a large bird and demands as much space as you can possibly give it in and out of the cage. As with the other macaws they should be offered the greatest variety of nutritious food possible. Along with exercise, diet cannot be stressed too much. These birds are loving and bond easily and quickly to you and your family. They trust implicitly, but will also remember any trick you pull on them and may lose some of that trust. They can be quite loyal and will defend you against perceived threats or intrusions into your space. This can sometimes be a problem if you or others are unaware that, just as we are protective of our families, they can be too. General Information

Goffin's Cockatoo
![]() Goffin's Cockatoo Physical Characteristics These birds have mostly white plumage. The lores and base of the head feathers are salmon pink. The skin of the preorbital is white, prominent and circular. They have grayish-white bills. The iris of the male’s eye is black while the female’s is brown. Males also have a larger head and the preorbital skin is more prominent than in females. Size of average adult length: 12.5 inches weight: 1 pound Diet Wild: fruit, seeds and nuts Reproduction pair up to mate and raise young nest in hollow parts of trees incubation: 28 days clutch size: 1 - 2 Goffin’s cockatoos – also known as the Tanimbar cockatoo - are active, high-energy birds. Although they are relatively uncommon in the United States, they are gentle, playful, very affectionate and make excellent pets for young families. Appearance & Personality Goffin cockatoos birds have short white crests and blue eye rings with a small pink patch between the eyes and nares(nostrils). They may be confused with the larger bare-eyed cockatoo. The underside of the flight feathers are yellow. The formal scientific name for the birds is Cacatua goffini. In the wild, they inhabit coastal lowland forests and woodlands on the Tanimbar Islands of Indonesia. They also invade cultivated areas and damage crops, gathering in flocks of 300 or more birds and feeding on seeds, crops, fruits, berries, buds, flowers, nuts and insect larvae. They are most active in early morning and late afternoon. Goffin’s cockatoos can live up to 40 years. Precise data on the lifespan of the average Goffin’s cockatoo is poorly documented. Goffin’s cockatoos are inquisitive and love to chew objects in their surroundings, but they are not as destructive as other cockatoos. They should always be provided with toys, blocks of wood or branches to chew on. To avoid fear of new situations, young cockatoos should be socialized to many people and exposed to a variety of situations such as new cages, toys and visits to the veterinarian. The birds make good pets for young families, and, when they are available in the market. Feeding Goffin Cockatoos should be fed a pelleted diet. High-protein diets make an excellent staple diet for cockatoos. Weaning food can also be used. The diet should be supplemented with fresh fruits and vegetables daily to add variety. Feed approximately 1/4 cup of formulated diet and 1/4 cup of fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Monitor the bird’s food intake, though: Overfeeding leads to pickiness, selective feeding and wasteful throwing of food. Goffin’s cockatoos are picky eaters that utilize calories efficiently. Try to ensure that the food they eat is nutritious and avoid feeding large quantities of high-fat sunflower and safflower seeds. Vitamin supplements are not needed for birds on a formulated diet. Housing Goffin’s cockatoos are very active and should be provided the largest cage that space and budget allows. Ideally, the cage should provide room for flight, but at a minimum, it must allow space for the bird to fully spread his wings. Durable cage construction is not as critical for Goffin’s as it is for large cockatoos because they are not such strong chewers. Many are adept at opening cage latches, however, so locks or escape-proof latches may be necessary. Ideally, the bird should also have an outdoor cage to allow play time in the fresh-air and sunlight.
Chaco Blue-Fronted Amazon $850![]() Blue-Fronted Amazon Amazons are fun loving clowns who tend to go with the flow enabling them to become great members of a family. They like to be where the action is and will require nice roomy cages and lots of toys to beat up, chew on, seek and destroy, preen and just bully sometimes. Amazons can be quite vocal each morning and evening as they announce their joy at life and are not considered quiet birds; although they seldom become screamers if provided with lots of playful activity during the day. They should be well socialized from an early age to help them remain handeable by more than one person. Amazons have a tendency to become a little overweight with age, so not only is play important, their diet should be varied and structured to prevent obesity. Amazons can have a very strong personality and when they want something, they want what they want when they want it. They are very intelligent parrots and can be demanding, loud, destructive, loving, silly, playful, full of songs and conversations and definitely an expressive individual. Although Amazons are not for everyone, if you choose to share your life with one, it can be the most rewarding experience ever. |
